Overview:
Rewarding Results is a $9 million national initiative to help purchasers and health plans align incentives for high-quality health care. We help employers, states, health plans, and other purchasers and payors develop financial and non-financial incentives to reward physicians and hospitals for higher quality, consistent with recommendations of the Institute of Medicine.
The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and the California HealthCare Foundation sponsor Rewarding Results, which provides grants, technical assistance, workshops, web seminars, and how-to publications to help purchasers and health plans. Additional support is provided by the Commonwealth Fund.
The National Health Care Purchasing Institute, part of the AcademyHealth in Washington, DC, administers Rewarding Results. Kevin B. (Kip) Piper, an AcademyHealth vice president and director of the National Health Care Purchasing Institute, directs Rewarding Results. Sarah R. Callahan, an AcademyHealth senior manager, is deputy director. An experienced team of staff and consultants assists them.
State Medicaid/SCHIP agencies and Medicaid health plans interested in adopting quality incentives may request technical assistance from our colleagues at the Center for Health Care Strategies.
The Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality is sponsoring an overall evaluation of the program's impact and effectiveness.
